:: Other Worship Forms::

Use some of the above media to lead your house church through a discussion.

Try some of the activities below yourself first and then with your house church family. Realize that each of these is meant to be done as an act of worship - opening ourselves up to be filled and tranformed by God. Any other purpose or motivation is pointless. It is also noteworthy that relying too heavily on any activity to "produce" a feeling or experience is not healthy. Worship is giving all that we are for/to Him, not getting all that we can from Him. Any of these activities could be taken to an unhealthy extreme. Keep God at the center and worship of Him as the focus. Always use Scripture and its prinicpals to filter and guide.

Go to the HubbleSite.com and peruse the gallery of images taken by the Hubble telescope.
Ponder how vast and immense creation really is and how small you really are. Then read Psalm 139, or 1 Peter 5:6-7.
Isn't it amazing that He cares for you?
Use (a book of) images and consider
the greatness of creation (huge mountains, the ocean, etc.) and then ponder how much bigger God is.
the multitude of creation (how many different kinds of plants, animals) and then think about what a creative God we have,
and how he is able to manage so many things at once.
     the beauty of creation.
Take a walk in nature, let down your anxieties, allow God to speak to you.
Listen to a great piece of music (classical, contemporary, even country).
Listen to Scripture being read out loud multiple times, and through various voices.
Use a scented candle or incense during a worship time.
Hold objects while you pray; for example - hold a paperclip while praying for a marriage that is struggling
(that the marriage would be held together).
Meditate on a classic piece of Christian art.
Take a drive and appreciate beauty in ancient and modern church buildings.
Draw while praying.
Allow taste to remind you of God - for example, something sweet could remind you of God's goodness.
Decide together to read the same Psalm every day, or read one in the morning and read one in the evening.
Create a house church calendar and traditions to celebrate sacred holidays.
Make a liturgy for you and your house church to read every day that incorporates different aspects of prayer (like drawing things
from The Book of Common Prayer) - adoration, confession, thanksgiving, intercession, supplication.
Schedule a time that you will all regularly pray together for the next week on a specified subject.
Find a picture or object (or a symbol like a cross, or a color) that you can use to remind you of God at your home or workplace.
Fast during Lent.
Decide to fast from food together and pray for a pressing need or concern in the house church.
Get the kids a sitter and plan a time of silent worship.
Fasting from movies, radio, etc. - anything you think you might be depending on for spiritual nourishment.
Decide to discuss and hold each other accountable to work hard at your job.
Plan how each person could take a simple personal retreat in the next month. Set a date to share after everyone has gone away.
Discuss how you could all live more simply as an act of worship - keeping from materialism and packed schedules.
Plan and go on a prayer walk, intercede for others.
Get involved in a political issue as an act of worship - to GLORIFY God.
Get involved with a social issue (abortion, for example).
Discuss and pray that each of you could speak the truth in love to another Christian. Name them. Pray for them daily.
Visit a nursing home, retirement community, hospital, or another place where sick and lonely people hang out.
Adopt a prisoner.
Help a friend or neighbor in need.
Lend someone money.
Volunteer on a rescue squad.
Fix someone's car.
Make meals for a needy family.
Journal your dreams (to help remember them!) and ask what God could be trying to teach you.
Keep a prayer journal and being expectant throughout the day for God's activity.
Celebrate in corporate worship. Try something new. Raise your hands. Kneel. Lay prostrate. Dance. Etc.
Create something (paint, words, lyrics, clay, wood, etc.).
Use your imagination, feeling, or reason to meditate on Scripture; imagine Scripture actually working out in your life
(what it would look like for you to be more loving, etc.)
Pray the "Jesus prayer " or a centering prayer, which helps to practice God's presence and rest.
Do secret acts that are just between you and God (anonymously helping someone,
writing a letter to God that you burn, "secret" prayer walk, or making a secret vow or fasting).
Try "dancing" prayer" -- allowing God to be the lead and guide you to what to pray for.
Practice just "being" in front of God - sitting quietly with him, without trying to pray "for" anything or do anything.
Reflect on the stations of the cross.
Use your imagination to enter Scripture scenes and encounter God.
Use an object to prayerfully reflect on Scripture.
Take a class to help your mind stay active.
Do a study together in church history, Biblical studies, systematic theology, ethics, apologetics.
Read a good Christian book together.
Learn a new way to study the Bible together, and spend enough time doing so (like, focus on one book a month).
