Grace Gathering is committed to fulfilling the Great Commission of making disciples. We believe that this happens by pursuing the lost with the gospel, by feeding the hungry, by serving the community, and by helping churches become more established and mature in the Scriptures and in the faith.
Our predominant method of outreach and missions is through each of our house churches. Each house church has a missional focus whereby that community of believers is serving their community and reaching out both locally and internationally. Rather than trying to mobilize an entire congregation to all be passionate about the same thing with regard to missions, Grace gives freedom and ownership to each house church to develop their own mission passion and to practice that passion both locally and internationally. Missions funds in the opearting budget are given to each house church to help fulfill their local and international focus.
While most outreach and mission happens within each house church at a grass-roots level, Grace as a centralized whole does support a handful of mission endeavors. They are as follows:
Mexico Missions Trips
We have sent short term missions teams to Mexico in 2006, 2007, and in 2008. We are currently planning our 2009 trip. These life changing trips have consisted of serving our brothers and sisters in Mexico, encouraging them, helping them financially, helping them physically, visiting the poor and needy, sharing the gospel with the lost, and simply blessing them in any way possible. In doing this, the blessing has been ours as well.
Just Come! A Christmas dinner for the community...2008 was our third year providing a free Christmas meal to the community. The dinner this year has been held in December 20, 2008 at Grace Gathering. This dinner is intended for all those who can use a hot meal and encouragement.
SEND International - Dennis and Judy Carlson
Dennis and Judy served as missionaries in the Philippines for 13 years. Dennis is now the head of church relations at SEND International headquarters and is involved in presenting mission opportunities and encouraging support for missionaries by churches. A HopeCenter
This local center provides pregnancy and relational resources at their office and at an IPFW center. They provide alternatives to abortions and, among other services, recovery classes for those who have had abortions. Volunteers are always needed and welcomed. Berea Fellowship Comunity Church - Pastor Chris White
Chris White served as an intern at Grace in the late 90's and early 2000's. He has since then started a local church in the south side of inner-city Fort Wayne. We support Chris and this church in multiple ways. For additional information about Berea Fellowship Community Church, you can email Pastor Chris White here .
Fort Wayne Area Youth For Christ/Campus Life - Steve & Allison Orth
Youth for Christ's Mission Statement is to participate in the Body of Christ in the responsible evangelism of youth, presenting them with the person, work, and teachings of Christ, and discipling them into a local church. By using relational ministry, Campus Life strives to meet teenagers where they are; in their schools, at their events, in their community. By doing this, we earn the right to hear their story and in time share with them our story and God's story. Campus Life is a connection point between lost teenagers and the Church and is a safe comfortable place to first hear about the person of Jesus Christ. In New Haven, high school Campus Life meets on Monday nights at 7:17 pm at various locations and middle school Campus Life meets on Friday mornings at 6:45 am in the New Haven Middle School west gym. For more information please contact Steve & Alison Orth at (260) 493-6569.
InAsMuch Grace Gathering leadership made a missional decision to financially partner with InAsMuch ministry (located at Broadway Christian Church) in 2008 in an effort to better serve the benevolant needs of our community (outside of the Grace Gathering family). InAsMuch receives support by several area churches who have seen the benefit that InAsMuch has provided the Fort Wayne area/community.
