Jesus taught us to prayer for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. Because there will be no pain in heaven, this is a part of the commitment to pray for physical, spiritual, and emotional healing. Twenty-five percent of the gospels are about Jesus’ healing ministry. We desire for heaven to come to earth as we continue to catch glimpses of what the new heaven and the new earth will be like throughout eternity.

While prayer is a mystery, it does change the circumstances of earth when we pray in faith and God heals ourselves and others when we ask. We all have sin and brokenness in our lives. We all have internal and external pain. God wants all pain healed and removed from our lives.

Read through the following Scriptures

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.11 Give us today our daily bread.12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. 14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Matthew 6:5-14

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.

1 Peter 2:24

And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.

Revelation 21:4

Churchwide Practice

We’d like to extend an invitation to practice praying for healing and receiving prayer for healing this week. As a churchwide practice,

• Ask someone to if you can pray healing for them in an area.

• Ask someone to pray healing for you in an area.

This can be physical, emotional, and spiritual healing.

If you have never prayed for healing for someone, here’s an easy prayer you can pray over someone that is in need of healing.

A recommended approach to healing prayer

Ask the person being prayed for:

  • Where does it hurt? What symptoms do you have?
  • Why do you have this condition?
  • What should I pray for you?
  • How are they doing?
  • What else do you want prayer for?

Persevere in prayer.

Don’t give up after the first time you begin to pray for healing, keep on. Ask the person you’re praying for if they sense anything happening? If they say “yes, but not fully” then  pray again!

Prayer and medicine.

• Praying for healing does not mean that a person cannot use medicine or go to doctors.

• Medical knowledge is also a gift from God, and He also heals through medical means.

Father, Thank you that you love to give good gifts to your children. Thank you that you love [name of the person who needs healing] and you know exactly what they are going through. We know that in heaven there is no sickness and no pain. I ask, in the name of Jesus, that you would heal [name of person] and that you would have compassion and bring healing and wholeness. I know that by Jesus’ stripes we are healed and I pray that you would bring heaven to earth in the form of healing. God, I thank you that when we pray you hear us and respond. I pray this in faith today and in the powerful name of your son, Jesus. Amen
