For five hundred years, the Tabernacle served as a place for God to reside
among His people, and a place where His people could connect with Him.
Exodus 25:8; 40:34-37. Throughout Israel’s history, there was a tendency
toward idolatry. So, the Tabernacle stood as an everyday visual reminder to
Israel that they served the true and living God. The structure and provision of
the Tabernacle showed the children of Israel how they could:
Come before a holy God in worship and service. Exodus 29:42-45

Offer sacrifice for sin. Leviticus 1-7; 16-17
Receive instruction and counsel from God in worship.

Read SCRIPTURE: Psalm 24
Of David. A psalm.
1 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it;
2 for he founded it on the seas
and established it on the waters.
3 Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy place?
4 The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not trust in an idol
or swear by a false god.
5 They will receive blessing from the Lord
and vindication from God their Savior.

6 Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek your face, God of Jacob.
7 Lift up your heads, you gates;
be lifted up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
8 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,
the Lord mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, you gates;
lift them up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
10 Who is he, this King of glory?
The Lord Almighty—
he is the King of glory.

Questions:
1) The Fence, or the Gate, was the only way into the Tabernacle? The white fence said “stay away” but the brightly embroidered Gate said “come in this way.” Jesus is like the brightly embroidered Gate. As you think about worship,
are there times when you see the white fence instead of the embroidered fence? Discuss.
2) The Tabernacle is divided into 3 sections: the outer court, the inner court, and the holy of holies. As Kay Warren spoke, what got your attention about these three areas? How might this change the way we approach God in our worship?
3) The eternal purpose of the Tabernacle was to point to Jesus as the way. We become “living tabernacles” for God. Discuss what you think “living tabernacles” are? Is there something that God is showing you this week about true worship? What is a tangible step you can take to grow closer to Him?

The Practice

  1. Day 1-Entering. We enter into prayer to begin to seek God and draw near to him, having bowed our hearts (like bowing under the embroidered Gate) and with thanksgiving. Today, Meditate on Psalm 24:1-3 and enter his Gate with Thanksgiving and Praise.

Pray and meditate on Psalm 24:1-3 1 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; 2 for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters. 3 Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place?

  1. Day 2-Sacrifice and confession of sin are represented by the bronze altar where sacrifices for sin were made. Christ is our sacrifice since our sin has caused an estrangement from God. As we confess our sins in humility and look with faith to his sacrifice for us on the cross, we connect with his grace and atonement. Today, Meditate on Psalm 24:3-6 and add a time of confession.

Pray and meditate on Psalm 24:3-6 Who may stand in his holy place? 4 The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. [a]5 They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior. 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob. 1. Day 3 Cleansing and forgiveness are represented by the bronze laver or basin. We receive his forgiveness and cleansing by faith with thankfulness. As we have confessed our sin He has washed us clean and we move closer to Him in worship. Again, Meditate on Psalm 24:3-6 and be assured that your sins are forgiven. The blessing of the Lord is a relationship through Jesus and what he accomplished on the cross and through the resurrection.

Pray and meditate on Psalm 24:3-6 Who may stand in his holy place? 4 The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. 5 They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior. 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob. 4. Day 4 Worship is the next step. As the priests tended the lamps, the table, and the altar of incense, we offer regular thanksgiving and praise to God in the Holy Place, as a sweet fragrance before him. Again, meditate on the areas of worship in the tabernacle: the lampstand, the table of shewbread, and the altar of incense. Because this chamber had no windows, the lampstand was the only source of light.

Pray and Meditate on Psalm 24: 6-8 They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior. 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob. [ Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 8 Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.
Song of Worship:

  1. Day 5 Encounter with God in the Holy of Holies is the ultimate goal. We hear this in Moses’ plea, “Show me your glory” (Exodus 33:18) and in Paul’s cry, “that I may know him” (Philippians 3:10). Before him in the Holy of Holies, our words are no longer necessary as we bask in his presence and look forward to the day in the City of God when we shall “see his face” (Revelation 22:4)! Come soon, Lord Jesus!

Pray and Meditate on Psalm 24:9-10 9 Lift up your heads, you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 10 Who is he, this King of glory? The Lord Almighty—he is the King of glory. In the Holy of holies is just you and Him. It is here and we lift our heads and behold who He is. In the Holy of Holies there may be no words adequate. We have moved from Bowing to confession, from confession to forgiveness. From His forgiveness we have moved into worship. From worshiping Him, we are now in His Glory. It is here where we worship Him in Spirit. It is no longer just one way communication only. It may results in our encountering Him in new and exciting ways. So lift your Heads—So that the King of Glory may come in! Song of Response to Encountering Him- Here As It Is In Heaven https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0C_lPro_xk

6. Day 6-7, go through the entire practice in personal time of worship or in
your community or group’s worship.
